We received an activity report for January 2026 from Ms. Suzuki, representative of the NPO "LYSTA" in Fukushima Prefecture.

January Activity Report

Our monthly spay/neuter surgeries were limited to 38 cats.

For 10 years now, we have been performing monthly surgeries for "kittens growing up with colds and malnutrition," "the burden on mama cats repeatedly giving birth and raising kittens," and "male cats constantly getting into fights and injuries." However, as long as kittens and unspayed/unneutered cats are being admitted to animal shelters, we still need to keep working hard.

Grandma Juby tried her best

In January, we took in two cats from the animal shelter.

Juby was found collapsed and brought to the shelter.

She had squamous cell carcinoma and hypoglycemia. She couldn't even lift her head. She recovered for a while with treatment, but it seemed she was a very old cat, more so than the cancer issue, and she stopped eating and passed away.

"Juby" means "I live" in French, and as soon as we took her in, I thought, "This is the only name for her!" I wish I had met Juby sooner and been able to do more for her.

Ganba (the cat in the thumbnail image) had a fractured pelvis and severe bloody urine.

It was more like "blood" than bloody urine, and his anemia was also progressing.
About two weeks after being rescued, his bloody urine has lightened, but the paralysis in his hind legs has not recovered, and he is undergoing manual bladder expression.
